The 2020 Toyota Highlander is on its way to our new and pre-owned Toyota dealership in Wilkes-Barre, PA. In the meantime, let’s talk about how this three-row midsize SUV compares to similar models. We’ll give you a hint - there’s simply nothing exactly like it out there.

For 2020, the Toyota Highlander receives some styling revisions. However, it keeps all the things we loved about the previous model like the standard high-tech safety features, strong V6 engine output, and impressive fuel economy for its size. Overall, it’s a pleasant ride, but why choose the Toyota Highlander over some of the competitors?

When it comes to performance, the Toyota Highlander has the upper hand over the Volkswagen Atlas. It comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. The VW Atlas, on the other hand, only churns out 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque as standard. Not to mention, the 2020 Toyota Highlander also offers a hybrid model; the Volkswagen Atlas does not.

The Toyota Highlander gives you the option of forward collision warning and automatic braking, lane departure alert and steering assist, as well as automatic high beams that allow for a smooth and safe ride. The NHTSA rated this model an overall 5/5 and a 5/5 in nearly every category. The 2020 Toyota Highlander comes standard with an eight-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration for both Apple and Android, and a WiFi hotspot. The VW Atlas, however, only features a 6.5-inch touchscreen as standard. While it does offer an upgrade to eight inches, it simply does not match the 12.3-inch touchscreen available in higher trims of the Toyota Highlander.
